The faculty of College of Nursing
believes that nursing is an evolving
academic discipline which integrates
concepts from the bio-psycho-social
sciences and humanities. It is a
profession which applies research
and theory from nursing and other
disciplines to its practice. Nursing
provides a professional service
directed towards the promotion of
self-care and health, the management
of human responses, the maintenance
and restoration of optimal health
for individuals, families and
populations in a diverse society. |
|
| |
| |
Nursing is a scientific discipline
built upon a core of knowledge
reflective of its dual components of
science and arts. The science of
nursing is built on a unique body of
knowledge based on a critical
thinking framework, known as the
nursing process composed of
assessment, diagnosis, outcomes
identification, planning,
implementation and evaluation. These
steps serve as the foundation of
clinical decision making and for the
provision of evidence based
practice. The distinctive focus of
the discipline is on nursing actions
and processes for human beings
directed towards holistic care
approach and promoting health for
all. |

| |
| |
A solid base in liberal education
provides the distinguishing
cornerstone for the study and
practice of professional nursing. A
strong foundation in liberal arts
includes a general education
curriculum that provides broad
exposure to multiple disciplines and
multiple ways of knowing in both the
arts and sciences, whereas
interdisciplinary integrated
education and learning provide
enrichment and diversity for
learners and faculty, and promotes
opportunities for excellence in
healthcare education and practice. |
|
| |
|
| |
Learning is a life-long process
which is enhanced when educational
activities and opportunities are
meaningful to the learner. Learning
is facilitated in a supportive
environment which fosters critical
and creative thinking. Individuals
from diverse backgrounds utilize
personal experience and are involved
in this process. The
teaching-learning process includes
opportunities for faculty-students
interaction. The relationship
between faculty and students
interaction is reflective of a
cooperative learning experience.
Together they set goals, select and
evaluate educational experience, and
appraise learning outcomes. |
